What Is Tanning?

Tanning is the process of an increase in the skin pigment called melanin due to sun exposure. While tanning can also be a result of artificial skin tanning services, through the use of a tanning lamp found in tanning beds, the major cause of tanning is excessive exposure to sunlight. It causes the darkening of the skin on exposed areas majorly on the face, arms, hands, legs, feet, back, and neck.

When is this recommended?

When you have a tan.

What is the Procedure?

  • A carbon peel is applied on the whole face before subjecting it to laser and is allowed to penetrate into the pores. This is removed by the laser which breaks the carbon into tiny bits. The reason this carbon peel is applied is that the carbon particles attract the laser light thereby allowing it to penetrate deep into the skin at which level most of the skin’s regenerative agents reside.
  • Before exposing the skin to laser, a pair of protective goggles is worn to protect it against laser.
  • The laser beams are then slowly and gently exposed on the skin surface, which can either be on the affected area or the whole area of the body part undergoing the treatment.

The laser treatment requires around 5-10 sessions with a gap of 4-6 weeks which will allow the skin to recover from the previous session while also preparing for the upcoming sessions.
